Brent Coverdale – Eagle-Owl Award

Birdlife SA has recognised Brent Coverdale in the 2025 OWL Awards.
Brent Coverdale’s dedicated service at Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife (EKZNW) has made him an outstanding champion for bird conservation in South Africa. His expertise in avian conservation has been instrumental in protecting KwaZulu-Natal’s diverse bird populations and their habitats.
Brent started at EKZNW as a District Conservation Officer for the Richmond and Ixopo areas in 2007, and in 2013 was appointed as an Animal Scientist for birds and mammals. During the past 18 years, Brent has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment by implementing practical conservation measures. His willingness to mentor emerging conservationists further amplifies his impact. His collaborative approach has strengthened partnerships between EKZNW and other organisations, as supported by the following testimonies…
